New Year’s Resolutions: Reflections and Strategies for 2024

Chapter 1: Reflections on March 2024

March has proven to be a peculiar mix of new experiences, challenges, excitement, and stress. The delay in documenting my thoughts highlights just how eventful this month has been. I reached two key conclusions: first, I want to concentrate more on Substack, which I find more appealing. Although I have only three months of experience there, the benefits clearly outweigh the drawbacks. Second, I’ve adopted a "Spanish first" approach to my writing. Previously, I would write in English and then translate to Spanish, which felt inefficient. Having spent the last several years writing in English, I noticed my vocabulary was a limiting factor.

Interestingly, I've observed that the accounts I follow on Medium tend to focus more on themes like business, leadership, and digital trends—areas relevant to my professional life. In contrast, I gravitate towards more inspirational content on Substack, such as creativity, films, plans for Barcelona, and art. I intend to keep my Medium account as I still enjoy reading there. It’s fascinating how our brains operate differently across languages, and I’m eager to see how my experiences unfold on both platforms.

If anyone wishes to engage in discussion, I pose these two questions:

  1. For those who are bilingual, what strategy do you employ? Do you prefer to initiate your writing in your native language or in the target language?
  2. Do you agree that it’s better to be late than never?

As someone once said, “Better late than never.” Thus, I am summarizing my March experiences. It was a fantastic month filled with new opportunities and personal growth, despite some unmet goals:

Health plan: not achieved.

Books: not achieved.

Food: not achieved.

Writing: not achieved.

Overall, starting on Substack has been a rewarding experience. My goal is to balance my strategy across both platforms moving forward. I’m curious to see what April holds.

Chapter 2: The Journey Ahead

As I move forward, I remain optimistic about my progress and the potential that lies ahead.
