Chapter 1: Embracing Your Writing Journey
What steps should you take now, and are you doing enough to progress in your writing career?
Hi there! I'm Lia, and over the past four years, I've been immersed in writing across various blogs, and I've recently started sharing my work on Medium. Writing has always been a passion of mine. Inspired by shows like Sex and the City, I dreamt of making a living through my words. During my younger days, I created a mini-series on a small blog, which I didn't continue, but the thrill of crafting new storylines each week was exhilarating.
The impetus for my blog came from a friend who expressed interest in starting one herself. She invited me to join her, and I leapt at the opportunity. While she ceased writing after a few months, I've continued to contribute to our shared space. I may not consider myself a literary genius, but writing is an integral part of my life. One day, I aspire to become a mommy blogger, a goal that may sound cliché, yet truly excites me.
My writing journey hasn't been filled with dramatic turns. I’ve had several pieces published on my blog and Medium, which has been fulfilling for both me and my family. My ability to earn money through writing feels like a stroke of luck—I'm not unique, but I’ve managed to cultivate an audience, for which I am incredibly thankful.
For those just starting out, my advice is straightforward: begin writing. It may sound simplistic, but building a diverse portfolio is crucial. The more you write, the more your skills will develop, and frequent publication leads to more readership. I've found Medium to be an excellent platform for establishing a presence. Many suggest using it as a portfolio when applying for writing jobs. A significant following on Medium can demonstrate your commitment to writing.
Consistency in producing content is essential for success. For me, what began as a hobby has gradually evolved into a source of income over recent months. It might take time to gain recognition, but persistence pays off; writing can indeed be rewarding. Consider sharing your work on LinkedIn and Facebook to enhance your visibility. The most important thing is to start writing as soon as possible. While my advice may seem scattered, these are the best tips I can offer. Dive into the writing world, and you'll soon notice the fruits of your labor!
