Understanding OS Updates in the Tech World

Updating your computer's operating system shouldn’t feel like a struggle. Fortunately, Apple makes this process both simple and efficient.

In our tech-driven lives, we rely on computers, smartphones, and various gadgets to enhance productivity and enjoyment. However, the update process can sometimes feel far from delightful, often leading to frustration.

Do you have confidence that your device will function correctly after an update? Or do you worry that it might turn into an unusable device? Many users place their trust in Apple, as indicated by a remarkable 82% satisfaction rate in US consumer reports.

Just yesterday, Apple tested that trust again by releasing the latest updates for macOS Ventura 13.2, alongside iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3, and watchOS 9.3. This article provides a brief overview of the experience.

A Journey Through Operating Systems

As a self-proclaimed tech enthusiast, I've interacted with Windows, Google, Apple, and even Linux systems since the mid-'80s. Back then, Google was merely a vision in the minds of its young founders, while Microsoft had users convinced that software had to be cumbersome and inefficient, exemplified by MS-DOS. My perspective is shaped by personal experience and daily interactions with these platforms.

My first computer, an MS-DOS machine, still haunts me in my dreams.

#### The Windows Experience

Updating a Windows machine requires an extraordinary amount of patience and often leads to unexpected complications when drivers and peripherals no longer communicate with the new OS.

My last Windows laptop became painfully slow after an update, forcing me to start from scratch. After contacting Microsoft Support and navigating a labyrinth of options, I was told my two-year-old laptop was simply too outdated for the latest OS.

The reality is, the lifespan of a PC is disappointingly brief. Upgrading often necessitates a new purchase, benefitting manufacturers rather than the users.

Apple’s Smooth Sailing

Early yesterday morning, I anticipated some challenges as I prepared to update my Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and iPhone—after all, they are computers. I began at 6:30 AM, and by 7:20 AM, all updates were completed without any hitches.

My MacBook M2 operates like a young horse galloping across digital fields, and my other devices are equally responsive.

#### The Reliability of Apple

Once again, Apple proved to be a trustworthy choice. With a combination of quality and style, it remains my preferred environment for productivity, creativity, and efficiency. While some may disagree, as long as I can utilize these elegant machines, I have no qualms.

Computers are like soap; you can clean your digital mess with any of them. However, I prefer one that’s eco-friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and emits a pleasant scent after use—rather than the odor of a window cleaner. Updates shouldn’t cause stress.

Apple's Environmental Progress Report highlights its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon impact by 2030 and transitioning its entire supply chain to 100% renewable energy by the same year. Their commitment is backed by substantial evidence in the report.

The Intersection of Sustainability and Profitability

Being environmentally responsible doesn’t have to be a burden; it can also be a lucrative endeavor. Apple exemplifies how beautiful design combined with technical expertise benefits both users and the company. Their products are built to last, providing better efficiency and satisfaction than competitors.

According to a Forrester Report, companies transitioning to Macs see impressive financial returns: a 336% ROI, payback in under six months, and an average savings of $843 per Mac over three years.

While PCs come with a price tag, Macs offer true value. When investing in Macs, the financial benefits go back to the user, while Windows often profits Microsoft.
