Achieving 1% Improvement Weekly: A Path to Success

Chapter 1: Understanding the 1% Principle
The FIREDANCE program aims to enhance your performance by approximately 1% each week, requiring only about 20 minutes of your daily commitment. This includes five one-minute breathing breaks and a 10-20 minute morning ritual centered around the M.A.G.I.C. formula.
Although Jason hasn't mastered all the components yet, it's perfectly acceptable—taking initiative is a sign of maturity. I ensure he engages with various elements throughout his week. He must exert effort in his physical fitness, manage his emotional well-being, and focus on his career. This framework resembles my "MAGIC 4 Teens" program (www.magic4teens.com). However, my true intention is to instill principles of success within him, similar to how my mother relentlessly played motivational tapes during my childhood. I may have despised it then, but those lessons have undoubtedly shaped my destiny.
This morning, I awoke feeling fantastic and reflected on my own 1% progress from the previous week. Here’s what I achieved:
- Career: I secured a financial manager, submitted a 14-page outline for my Star Wars novel, and brainstormed ten brief story ideas for another project.
- Body: I discovered an effective weight loss method through "slushy fasting," where I consume nutrient-rich slushies to curb my hunger, planning to avoid solid foods until I reach under 190 pounds.
- Relationships: Jason has significantly improved his emotional regulation, aspiring to “master his demons.” T and I could use more quality time together, but overall, we're thriving. Nicki is enjoying her time in Greece, knowing her puppy Nala is safe and loved. Most importantly, I’m feeling good about myself.
All of this stems from striving for a mere 1% improvement each week. But what does this actually entail? While it may be subjective, establishing objective metrics is crucial. My personal mantra is: "1% daily alignment of body, mind, and spirit."
My aspirational goal of 1% daily is loftier than my practical aim of 1% weekly, which is sufficient for achieving any objective. This involves visualizing your goal, assessing your current position, and identifying actions that will bridge the gap within two years, ultimately leading to a 1% weekly increase.
Feel your goal. What emotional states characterize someone who accomplishes their objectives while enjoying the journey? More energy? Optimism? Discipline? Joy? Creativity? Most areas can improve by 1% weekly with just an hour of focused study. Dedicating an hour each day could propel you to new heights.
As a summary, our underlying approach is to seek 1% improvements weekly by searching for daily enhancements. I estimate that spending around 10 minutes daily using this strategy could yield a 0.5% weekly boost.
Start with the Five Minute Miracle: Breathe deeply for sixty seconds. This duration may feel lengthy, but during this time, visualize your goals and connect them to today’s actions. Each breath allows you to transition between different aspects of your life—be it body, relationships, or career.
If you're part of the Firedance program, I expect you to generate at least ten dollars for every dollar you invest. This can be achieved by studying sales, marketing, and goal-setting for an hour weekly.
Once you integrate these five-minute sessions, extend your practice to 10-20 minutes. This is when you could engage in Tai Chi or a full exercise routine. Instead of a brief overview, take your time to luxuriate in positive feelings. Just as dwelling on past disappointments can weigh you down, reminiscing about joyful moments can uplift your spirit throughout the day.
By immersing yourself in incantations and visualizations, you can escape the confines of your mind and reconnect with your body's instinctual purpose—to breathe, thrive, and love. Embrace these fundamentals and align your goals with this primal drive, and you'll never struggle with motivation again.
If I aimed for rapid progress, I'd dedicate a full "Diamond Hour" to visualization, incantation, and stepping into my mentors' shoes, ensuring that by the end of that hour, I'd feel energized and ready to seize the day.
In my workouts, I'm constantly considering, "How can I improve my technique by 1% today? How can I push myself just a bit harder?" With relationships, I ponder, "How can I connect more deeply during this ritual? How can I be a better father or partner?"
By consistently reflecting on these questions, I program my Reticular Activating System to identify small, manageable changes—never striving for monumental leaps, but rather for tiny adjustments within my comfort zone. This process involves breaking down my ego, rebuilding it with fresh perspectives, and continuously asking, "Who am I?" and "What is true?"
If I commit to this six days a week, always asking how to improve 1% daily across all facets of life, can there be any doubt that I will progress? My only request for Jason is to aim for a 1% weekly enhancement. While I recognize some aspects of life are not easily quantified, I can set specific goals—like my weight or planning an exciting trip to Manila in 2024.
I can determine the time needed to spend with Jason, ensuring he invests in his emotional development to gain mastery over his challenges. Just a 25-minute session studying top personal development materials could suffice.
I can quantify my writing pages, research hours, and the time devoted to marketing and self-improvement. There will always be someone from whom to learn, reminding me to stay humble while dismantling my ego. This cycle of breakdown and rebuild occurs daily as I aim for 1%.
I firmly believe that if I strive for a 1% improvement daily, I will exceed my 1% weekly goal. For everyone reading this, I challenge you to invest just 20 minutes daily, and soon, that 1% weekly growth will feel effortless. You might even find yourself thinking, "What if I made it a point to reclaim an hour each day?"
Do you see how this all interconnects? My ultimate wish for Jason is for him to remain honest, kind, and strong, achieving balance in body, emotions, and mind—improving by 1% weekly. Remarkably, it seems he's progressing at an impressive rate of around 2% weekly.
I encourage you to embrace this journey. Join us as we explore using Firedance to achieve these goals every Saturday at noon Pacific on Zoom.
