A Bigger Display

Prior to my current model, I owned a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which I found impressive but ultimately returned due to its size. The 12.9-inch device caters to users seeking a substantial touchscreen with Apple Pencil compatibility, but it may not be ideal for those who need portability. A 14-inch model could greatly appeal to artists and video editors who require extensive screen space.

The anticipated 14-inch iPad Pro could also rival the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, which has a 14.6-inch display. The Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8+ feature 11-inch and 12.4-inch screens, respectively.

The M3 Pro Chip

While the idea of an M3 Pro chip might seem ambitious, its realization would position the iPad Pro as the most powerful tablet available. My MacBook Pro, powered by the M1 Pro chip, has more than met my demands, and the M3 Pro is expected to exceed that. The prospect of harnessing such processing power in a tablet format is exciting.

Yet, a pressing question remains: will there be sufficient software to exploit this capability? The M2 iPad Pro already meets the needs of most users, but the introduction of more professional-grade applications could change that dynamic. With Apple rolling out Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro for the iPad, there's hope for additional software that fully utilizes the M3's capabilities.

A Shift in iPadOS

Despite my admiration for the iPad, it currently falls short as a complete Mac replacement. The limitations of iPadOS, which still resembles an enhanced version of iOS, restrict its functionality for power users. While there is a file browser, it doesn't compare to Finder, and multitasking remains inferior to macOS.

I am hopeful that the launch of an M3 Pro iPad Pro will coincide with a major overhaul of iPadOS, transforming the iPad into a genuine laptop alternative worthy of its M3 Pro chip.

Apple's Developments

Reports indicate that Apple is working on a unique version of iPadOS 17 specifically for the anticipated 14-inch model. As we approach WWDC, discussions about iOS 17 have been plentiful, but rumors regarding iPadOS 17 have been more subdued.

When Will We See It?

There are mixed reports regarding the launch timeline for the 14-inch iPad Pro. Some sources suggest it might be canceled, while others predict a release in 2024. Ross Young had initially indicated a potential debut in early 2023, but delays have pushed expectations into 2024.

Apple has historically released iPad Pro models throughout the year, with notable launches in October 2018, March 2020, April 2021, and October 2022. My personal expectation leans towards an early 2024 release.

Would You Consider Buying a 14-inch iPad Pro?

Personally, I found the 12.9-inch model a bit cumbersome. However, the addition of an M3 Pro chip might entice me to invest in a 14-inch version for drawing and design tasks at my desk. The sheer processing power in a tablet format could be incredibly appealing.
