A Celebration of Shakespeare Through Poetry Prompts

Chapter 1: A Tribute to the Bard
In my NaPoWriMo journey, I find myself on uncertain footing.
Today’s reflections bring to mind the whimsical thoughts that often dance through my head in April. Just yesterday, I might have touched upon the topic of birthdays (and yes, there was cake involved). However, today marks the anniversary of a much more renowned figure from the past. I can only imagine he would articulate this occasion with more flair, showcasing his mastery of iambic pentameter and his delightfully intricate wordplay. But here I am, sharing my own free NaPoWriMo prompt blog—who’s more noteworthy, him or me?
The debate over his greater fame is of little concern (though I do appreciate your support). His literary contributions have endured for centuries posthumously (often celebrated on April 23), and his works continue to both perplex and enchant students everywhere. His plays still draw crowds. So, Happy Birthday to Mr. Shakespeare! I’m grateful for the beautiful, poignant, hilarious, and sometimes quite profane expressions you’ve gifted us. Today, I shall indulge in even more cake in your honor.
Your Challenge
should you choose to accept it…
Select a character or play from Shakespeare and compose a poem. What was Ophelia contemplating when she became involved with Hamlet? Take a stroll in Macbeth's troubled shoes. Is Kate genuinely satisfied with her transformation? The title "Troilus and Cressida" alone sends shivers down my spine with its potential. What’s the deal with all the disguises? How did Cordelia navigate her youth with her sisters? And what about Bottom… does Titania ever reminisce about him and his unfulfilled dreams?
If any aspect of this prompt inspires you to craft a poem here on Medium, please share a link in the comments—I would love to read your work!
This message comes to you from the whimsical poetical realm within me. There may be more to come, depending on the whims of the weather. Regardless, I shall relish my cake and savor every bite. I hope you enjoy some delicious cake as well.
Feel free to follow, share, clap, and embrace joy!
