The FlipBook Case: An Essential iPad Pro Accessory?
Some accessories come as a delightful surprise…

I’m currently transitioning to a lifestyle that relies solely on my iPad, and I have to say, I’m enjoying it far more than I anticipated. Surprisingly, I’ve limited myself to just one device—the 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro. Initially, I planned to use it primarily for video and photo editing while reserving the iPad Air for administrative tasks and writing.
My Misjudgment About Final Cut Pro on the iPad Pro
I remain skeptical about its future viability…
For some inexplicable reason, I've become completely immersed in using this iPad Pro for everything. This might be a mix of excitement over new technology and the realization that most people typically own just one iPad. Therefore, constantly switching devices isn't a practical evaluation method, right, Mark?
As always, the accessories play a crucial role in making my experience with the larger iPad both enjoyable and productive. Today, I want to discuss one accessory that has genuinely surprised me: the FlipBook Case by Pitaka. While Pitaka did sponsor a recent YouTube video featuring the FlipBook Case, this blog post is not sponsored.
What Is the Pitaka FlipBook Case?
“Your next iPad bag is not a bag,” states Pitaka on the FlipBook Case's landing page.
Now, I’ll admit I’ve never thought about getting a 'bag' for my iPad. A case? Sure. But a bag seems a bit... well, a bit too ordinary, doesn’t it?

Nevertheless, Pitaka raises a valid point. Although the FlipBook Case resembles a thin bag—perhaps more like a briefcase—it offers much more than that. This case is designed to attach to the Apple Magic Keyboard using non-destructive sticky pads that can be easily removed. It effectively transforms your iPad and Magic Keyboard into a case-bag hybrid, complete with magnetized handles and a front pocket.
Will I Regret This iPad Mini-Only Experiment?
I have plenty of concerns…
Once attached, the FlipBook Case isn’t meant to be frequently removed, though it can be taken off easily. If you’re worried about it blocking the camera, a handy flap allows for easy access.
The Pitaka FlipBook Case retails for $89 and is available for both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros.
What I Appreciate About It
As I mentioned, Pitaka provided me the FlipBook Case as part of a YouTube sponsorship. This raises an interesting question: would I have considered purchasing such an accessory had it not been given to me?

Probably not. I’m not typically a fan of cases, let alone an attachment that permanently turns my iPad into a briefcase. Many accessories I receive for review get used once and then discarded. However, the FlipBook Case stands out as an exception; I’ve completed the linked video and have no intention of removing it.
This speaks volumes about its impact on my iPad-only lifestyle. The FlipBook Case allows my iPad Pro to be ultra-portable, eliminating the need to carry it awkwardly under my arm or stuff it into an already-crowded backpack.
Pitaka has also done a commendable job with the design. Although taste is subjective, the FlipBook Case is undeniably sleek, professional, and well-crafted. Constructed from Carbitex OmniFlex carbon fiber and premium leather, it seems built to last. The satisfaction of snapping the magnetic handles shut is a nice touch as well.
Some reviewers have mentioned that the FlipBook Case can make the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard feel a bit top-heavy, but I have not encountered this issue. It remains stable on all surfaces I've used, and the iPad never feels like it might topple over when interacting with the display.
What I’m Not So Fond Of
The FlipBook Case is not for everyone. It’s definitely an acquired taste. If you prefer to keep your iPad free from permanent accessories or elaborate designs, this may not be for you.

There are also practical considerations. The FlipBook Case adds noticeable weight to the already hefty iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard combination. Additionally, while the front zippered pocket is a nice feature, it’s limited in capacity and won’t accommodate larger items like a charging brick.
Does reMarkable 2 Beat the iPad Mini Now It’s Cheaper?
That’s quite a price drop!
The bottom handle can interfere with typing, depending on the surface you’re using, and the camera flap doesn’t always stay closed. These are minor issues, and most are trade-offs you’ll encounter when using an accessory that transforms your iPad into a 'bag,' as Pitaka describes it.
Conclusion
The FlipBook Case is tailored for a specific audience, but Pitaka has effectively catered to that niche. It’s one of those accessories that I didn’t realize I needed until I started using it.
Is this simply New Gear Syndrome? Perhaps, but for now, I see no reason to detach my iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard from the FlipBook Case anytime soon. This accessory is a well-executed, focused product from Pitaka, reasonably priced considering its high-quality materials and the genuine utility it offers for the iPad Pro.
