Chapter 1: The Challenge Awaits
Have you ever wondered if you possess the skills to calculate the area of a shape quickly? Just like people and ideas strive to thrive and multiply, so do concepts and knowledge. This ongoing struggle often leads to conflicts, as each wants to prevail. What are your thoughts on this notion?
This has been on my mind lately. Now, with the details regarding a convex quadrilateral at hand, are you ready to tackle this puzzle? Share your solutions to leave your mark!
Take a moment to pause this article, find a pen and paper, and give it a shot. Once you're prepared, continue reading for the answer!
Section 1.1: Analyzing the Triangle
Let’s focus on triangle ABC.
This triangle is right-angled, allowing us to utilize Pythagoras’ Theorem to determine the hypotenuse’s length.
AC² = 3² + 4², which results in AC = 5.
The intriguing aspect of this puzzle is that we can form another triangle, ACD, with sides measuring 5, 12, and 13.
Notice that 5² + 12² = 13²!
By applying the converse of Pythagoras' Theorem, we conclude that triangle ACD features a right angle at CAD. Thus, we can find the area of the quadrilateral by breaking it down into two distinct right-angled triangles.
Section 1.2: Calculating the Area
The area can be calculated as follows:
