The Joy of Learning: Embracing the Journey of Life

Chapter 1: The Beauty of the Learning Process

Is it possible to cultivate humility?

Indeed, being aware of your politeness is not the same as actually being polite. One must recognize when they have reached a level of understanding. This implies—doesn’t it?—that you must listen in order to attain a certain state, a serene space where you can uncover lasting happiness, akin to an eternal bliss in the heavens. Yet, as I mentioned earlier, there is no final destination; there is only an ongoing journey of learning, and that is where the true beauty of life lies.

If you think you've arrived, then you are at a standstill. Many of us feel we have reached or aspire to reach a certain point—not just in our careers but in all aspects of life. This yearning can lead to dissatisfaction, frustration, and unhappiness.

Gentlemen, there is no endpoint; there exists only this continuous learning pace, which can sometimes feel burdensome. A mind that listens with complete focus never lingers for outcomes to surface; it is always evolving, always flowing like a river.

This kind of mind is largely unaware of its own activities. It does not cling to the notion of a permanent 'self' and is not driven by the pursuit of specific goals. Knowledge is not its primary concern.

Avadhana represents a mental state that observes without judgment or acceptance, perceiving things as they truly are.

When you view a flower without the constraints of botanical classifications, you appreciate its entirety. However, if your mind is cluttered with detailed knowledge about the flower, you lose sight of its wholeness. Therefore, to truly see something is to become aware of it.

In that awareness, there is no preference, aversion, or bias; yet many struggle to achieve this clarity because they find it difficult to confront reality without preconceived notions or backgrounds.

We must acknowledge our backgrounds and the weight of our past experiences, which inevitably influence our perceptions. These biases emerge when we observe facts, and it’s essential to focus on the observation itself, rather than being clouded by our past.

When the goal is to grasp the truth, recognizing that background influences our understanding is crucial. A genuine interest in uncovering the core of the matter can help us move beyond these biases.
