Embracing an iPad-Only Lifestyle: My Journey Begins!
Written on
Chapter 1: Setting the Stage for Change
As I embark on this journey, I'm excited to share my experiences with the iPad. Throughout my time with Apple's tablet, I've reviewed nearly all its iterations, experimented with various accessories, and even curated my own efficient setup for the iPad Air.
Despite the extensive content I've produced, I often find myself lamenting the iPad's struggle to integrate fully into my business operations. The exception? The iPad mini. Its role as a digital notetaker is so well-defined that it stands out above all other models I've used. The rest, while impressive, often feel like replaceable gadgets.
Determined to change my perspective, I'm committing to an iPad-only lifestyle and will approach this challenge methodically. Let me elaborate.
Chapter 2: The Allure of an iPad-Only Life
In discussions about the iPad, I sometimes hear critiques. However, the enthusiasm from defenders reassures me that there are significant benefits to adopting an iPad-only lifestyle. Firstly, the mobility factor is undeniable. While MacBooks, especially the Air, are portable, they can't quite match the iPad's lightweight design, even with a Magic Keyboard.
The cost is another advantage. Although the iPad Pro can be pricey, there are options across the iPad lineup that cater to various budgets, often proving to be more economical than comparable MacBooks. Battery life, app availability, and the features of iPadOS further bolster the case for a dedicated iPad lifestyle.
However, the iPad's functionality mirrors that of a large iPhone, which isn't a drawback but rather highlights a fresh computing experience. While traditional input methods like keyboards and trackpads are still available, the touch interface introduces a different way to interact with technology.
But as thrilling as this transition sounds, I also recognize the challenges that lie ahead.
Chapter 4: Engaging with My Audience
Recently, I reached out to my YouTube followers for guidance on how to effectively utilize an M2 iPad Pro for an upcoming sponsored project. Their suggestions flowed in rapidly: from learning Procreate for drawing to using the iPad as a second screen or exploring gaming options. The most recurrent suggestion? To install DaVinci Resolve and dive into video editing.
Acknowledging their input, I am now formulating a plan.
Chapter 5: Charting My iPad-Only Path
My approach will involve multiple iPads. The iPad mini will continue serving as my go-to digital notetaker, especially during a forthcoming day trip to London. The iPad Air will take on general writing and administrative tasks, while the M2 iPad Pro will focus on video editing.
I understand that this transition won't mean abandoning my Mac entirely, as Final Cut Pro remains crucial for my business. However, I aim to handle all my writing on the iPad and utilize DaVinci Resolve on the M2 iPad Pro for editing short videos for my new YouTube channel, Mark’s Solo Club.
Stay tuned for what I anticipate will be an exhilarating journey!
