Embracing Change: The Evolution of Video Production

Written on

Chapter 1: A Personal Journey

Moving forward in life often involves embracing new technologies. At 73, I'm grateful for my experiences and the lessons learned along the way. Reflecting on my past, particularly my venture into video production during the 1970s, has been enlightening. Back then, video was primarily the domain of affluent television networks and a few well-resourced production companies. Today, however, anyone can create high-quality videos with ease.

My son, Matt, and I had an interesting conversation while waiting for his bus to New York City. He inquired about what prompted my transition from multi-image slideshows to video as the main medium for "audio-visual communications." Just as I was about to share my thoughts, his bus arrived, prompting me to remember an article I had written for the magazine "Multi-Images." This publication was tied to the Association for Multi-Image, a professional group for those involved in the multi-slide projector business.

After finding the article, I scanned it and sent a PDF to him the following day. It was penned five years after I had pivoted from my first business to a second one focused on video production, bringing along some former colleagues. This article was published in July 1987, and while it captured the essence of my motivations, I had simplified the reasons for my change at the time. Below are scans of that article, and if you're interested in a magazine-style read, feel free to delve into it and share your thoughts.
