Choosing Anger: A Raw Exploration of Emotion and Existence

Written on

Chapter 1: Embracing My Anger

At this moment, I’ve decided to embrace my anger. Forget your "therapy," "coping strategies," and medications—mostly.

I want to clarify that I’m not a medical professional. If you are, you might not appreciate what I’m about to express. Similarly, if you’re undergoing therapy or relying on various concoctions to navigate these challenging times, my words may not resonate with you either. But frankly, I’m not concerned about that. This is about my journey and the choices I'm making now.

Surviving 2024? Do what you must.

Talking About "The Herb"

Honestly, I have a fondness for marijuana. (Sorry to my family if this revelation catches you off guard.) I’ve enjoyed it for quite some time, even growing it as a hobby. If you have some soil and six months of warm weather, you could, too.

These days, marijuana and caffeine are my only indulgences. I’ve reduced my alcohol intake significantly; the last pack I bought lasted me over a month. Alcohol, in my experience, is the most detrimental substance. My body has been quick to signal its adverse effects, and I’m starting to heed those warnings.

Right now, however, I’m choosing to pause anything that artificially soothes me. I can’t predict how long this phase will last; it might just be for today. But, as with everything in life, it’s a choice between pleasure and pain.

“No one acts until absolutely necessary.” — My personal mantra

Currently, my use of marijuana is irritating an ear issue I’ve been dealing with. I don’t believe it warrants antibiotics just yet. I hope to avoid that because I value my body's natural balance. This ear problem has given me a valid reason to stop smoking temporarily, at least until I feel better. Aside from that, I generally feel healthy, except for my ongoing battle with depression.

Oh, how I dread February.

The Power of Anger

Taking a break from smoking has reminded me how potent the anger intertwined with depression can be. Yes, it’s powerful! I’ve made the conscious choice to remain angry. The world has become far too chaotic for me to artificially seek beauty through chemical means or psychological tricks designed to calm a tumultuous mind. Rather than softening the harsh realities, I now intend to confront them head-on.

And you, my dear readers, will hear all about it.

My New Coping Mechanism

As a side note regarding antidepressants, my experiences with therapists have been less than positive. One didn’t even remember my name, while another rushed to prescribe Zoloft as if it were candy. He even suggested that I could stop taking it whenever I wanted. It turned me into an emotionless shell, and after a few months, I decided to discontinue it. I later learned that such medications can sometimes lead individuals to contemplate suicide.

These antidepressants often provide just enough relief to embolden people in their darkest moments. If you’re taking any serotonin-altering medications, please exercise caution. In my unqualified opinion, you’re playing with fire. The truth is that the medical community doesn’t fully understand how these drugs function.

I recently stumbled upon an article that reignited my motivation to write today. My experiences with mental health professionals have left me feeling that psychologists often prioritize profits from pharmaceutical companies over genuine care.

Ultimately, who truly cares? If your experience differs, I commend you.

Check out that article; it presents solutions that go beyond the typical suffering and bureaucracy. It calls for immediate action to alleviate pain, not through empty promises of a better tomorrow but by addressing issues today. We possess all the resources we need; it’s merely a matter of political resolve.

Chapter 2: The Human Condition and Technology

Technology can often feel like a double-edged sword. I maintain that the human experience remains unchanged because humans themselves have not evolved significantly. History reveals the same narrative: the wealthy misbehaving while the masses remain passive. Greed, love, and revenge continue to drive our actions.

The core issue is that we are still primal beings. Our physical forms have needs that our intellects can only manage temporarily. Despite numerous advancements, our fundamental nature remains the same. We’ve had countless updates, yet few function correctly. The ideals of philosophers and scientists rarely align seamlessly with the chaotic reality of the human psyche.

It’s as if we’re trying to run a modern operating system on outdated hardware. Until the foundational aspects of the human mind evolve, we will continue to experience limitations. We have the technological means to address humanity’s challenges, yet we often misuse these tools, allowing them to become sources of profit rather than solutions.

The Golden Rule has been overshadowed by the mantra of rapid advancement at any cost. The promise of technology was to eliminate suffering, yet it often amplifies it, prioritizing profit over compassion. Until we can collectively agree on what constitutes a humane existence, the default will remain a self-serving mentality.

The myth that technology will solve all our problems has persisted for too long. If it were truly a panacea, we would have seen improvements long ago. Today, despite our ability to harness unprecedented power, the human condition remains rife with suffering.

When new technologies eventually reach the public, they are often commodified, controlled by those who can afford them. The potential for technological advancements to benefit humanity has been squandered time and again.

The reality is that ideas hold value only when they can be monetized, reinforcing a capitalist cycle that prioritizes profit over altruism.

“The first one’s free.”

This dynamic breeds anxiety, depression, and frustration among the populace. It’s why individuals resort to violence, storming institutions and schools. Genuine human connections are now often facilitated by technology; without social media, I might never have met my wife.

The irony lies in the rapid pace of technological democratization, which can sometimes be overwhelming. Profit motives overshadow compassion, and despair often outweighs hope. The means to inflict harm are more accessible than ever.

Have you glanced at platforms like YouTube recently? The availability of destructive knowledge is alarming. It’s easier than ever to access dangerous information, often presented with disclaimers that do little to deter interest.

This is why I refuse to soften the edges of our increasingly unbearable existence. I will remain angry until all necessary truths are voiced before the upcoming elections. If the wrong individuals gain power, the stakes will only grow.

8 billion desperate voices are calling for something better. Not the "best," not "great again," but simply better than what we’ve known.

Why? Because we all deserve it. From the most marginalized in society to those struggling to get by, we all seek improvement in our lives.

Vote Blue.

Congratulations on making it this far! Something must have resonated with you. Expect the unexpected from me, but I’ll always strive to keep it intriguing. Consider subscribing or supporting my work, as I appreciate every contribution to my endeavors!
