1. Somewhat like lizards and snakes, British people come to life in the sun.
After months of hibernation slouching from bed to desk and back again, everyone in the entire country went for a walk on the South Downs today in Hawaiian boardshorts and no shirts, with tinny music blasting cheerfully from their phones.
2. Doing two juice cleanses in one month is excessive.
1.5 days into my second juice cleanse of March, I realised that life’s too short to be constantly ravenous so I had some egg, beans and salad for lunch, then vegetable noodles for dinner followed by some fruit and left over chocolate and you know what? I felt great. I’m not seeing it as a failure…just a quiet admission that I need to listen to and fuel my body properly.
3. Mouse cursors are enigmatic little fuckers in the sunshine
The weather was too good today to spend it indoors so I took my laptop out on my balcony to write there while soaking up some VD. But, with the sunshine pouring down on my screen, I found it weirdly hard to keep track of the mouse arrow. I suppose normally your eyes detect the movement on the screen but in the glare of the sun there’s less contrast, so you don’t notice it. I don’t know. Either way, working outside is lovely but next time I might go to my settings and change the arrow to a big green dinosaur or something.
4. Long distance love is hard
We’ve been apart for 2 months now, and with COVID travel restrictions unclear until some time in April, we don’t know exactly when we’ll see each other next. Some days are easier than others but today wasn’t one of them.
5. Helicopters are always exciting
Today while I was walking along the cliffs at Beachy Head, a Chinook flew past really low and close. I could hear it approaching from miles away, an ominous sound, like the rhythmic pounding of battle drums. I’m a 30 year old woman but I still said ‘cooool’ out loud as it flew by. It must be a scary sight in a warzone.
6. Aromatherapy oils are one of life’s underrated pleasures
My neighbour kindly gave me some fancy aromatherapy skincare stuff that she gets from work and I used some in the shower today. Oh my goodness…the fragrance! I was instantly transported to a spa…candles, mood lighting, pinpipes, expensive serums being applied to expensive women. I often forget the power of smell – how it can focus you, soothe you or transport you. It was such a lovely moment in my day, to stand there and just breathe in that delicious scent.
Thanks for reading such mundane details about my life. I just wanted to post something quickly before I fell asleep for anyone who likes these diary style posts. I know I like to read about the little daily things in everybody else’s lives.
